Supplying Medicines and Supplements to Bahrain
A practical guide for Bahraini importers, distributors and hospital buyers who source from abroad, and for manufacturers and exporters worldwide selling into Bahrain.

Bahrain has a single, well-organised regulator. The National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) licenses manufacturers and distributors, and imports go through NHRA-authorised Bahraini entities.
The NHRA updated its medicine licensing guideline in October 2025, covering registration, pricing and variations. As a GCC member, Bahrain also takes part in Gulf-wide registration and joint procurement.

How to supply medicines to Bahrain
- Work with an authorised Bahraini entity. Imports go through an NHRA-authorised local company, which handles the licensing.
- Prepare the dossier. A CTD dossier in the Gulf Health Council format, with a CoPP and the plant's GMP evidence.
- Consider Gulf-wide registration. The Gulf Health Council can register the manufacturing company and the product centrally for all six GCC states. Each country then issues its own certificate and sets the price, and GHC registration is also the entry ticket to the Gulf joint procurement tenders.
- Check the current guideline. Read the latest NHRA licensing guideline for pricing, variations and any reliance route before you file.
For a medicine not licensed in Bahrain, ask your importer whether a special import is possible for your case. See named-patient and special import and government tender supply.
Supplements
Bahrain splits supplements in two. Health products are supervised by the NHRA like pharmaceuticals, while food supplements are handled by the Ministry of Health as foods. Both need registration, and labels must advise consulting a healthcare professional. We help brands get supplements made under their own label by GMP-certified contract manufacturers: see nutraceutical private label.
What people in Bahrain search for
Semrush data from October 2026 shows that people in Bahrain search most for vitamin D (about 1,600 searches a month in English and 1,300 in Arabic, “فيتامين د”), vitamin C (880), and vitamin B12, whey protein, collagen and protein (“بروتين”) at about 720 each.
Arabic searches matter here too: “فيتامين د” (vitamin D) gets between 1,000 and 10,000 searches a month, “صيدلية” (pharmacy) between 10,000 and 100,000, and “مكملات غذائية” (food supplements), “كولاجين” (collagen) and “بروتين” (protein) between 100 and 1,000 each (Google Keyword Planner, October 2026). Medicines are searched by generic name too, such as “pantoprazole” and “amlodipine” (Semrush).
How importers and distributors in Bahrain search
The regulator is the main trade search: “nhra” gets between 1,000 and 10,000 searches a month (Google Keyword Planner). Phrases such as “pharmaceutical companies in bahrain” and Arabic “شركات الادوية في البحرين” (pharmaceutical companies in Bahrain) register only weakly.
Originator brands searched by name include Roxonin (loxoprofen), Brufen (ibuprofen), Mydocalm (tolperisone), Daflon (diosmin and hesperidin), Duphaston (dydrogesterone) and Zyrtec (cetirizine). Brand names are trademarks of their owners and are used only to identify the medicine.
