Supplying Medicines and Supplements to Myanmar

Myanmar is import-led, with a registration process that is now online. A Myanmar-resident representative applies to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with the manufacturer's authorisation, an ACTD dossier, a GMP certificate and a CPP.

Getting paid needs as much planning as getting registered. Since September 2024, pharmaceutical import licences have been tied to the importer's export earnings and foreign-exchange approval, conflict has cut some supply routes, and US sanctions rules apply, so screen your counterparties.

1. Appoint a resident representative. A Myanmar-resident representative files with the FDA on the manufacturer's authorisation.
2. Prepare the dossier. An ACTD dossier with a CPP and a GMP certificate, filed online.
3. Get import approvals. After registration, the FDA issues an import approval certificate and the Department of Trade an import licence.
4. Secure payment. Confirm your buyer's export earnings and foreign-exchange approval cover the import licence, and screen counterparties against US sanctions rules.
