Supplying Medicines and Supplements to Haiti

About 70% of Haiti's medicines are imported, and the need is real. Manufacturers, licensed agents and distributors, central purchasing bodies and NGOs can all apply to the regulator, the DPM/MT, for authorisation.

Logistics need planning: because of the security crisis, the main port has been hard to reach and commercial flights have been suspended since late 2024. PROMESS is the national essential-medicines channel, and much donor-funded supply runs through separate programmes.

1. Choose your channel. A licensed agent or distributor for the private market, PROMESS for essential medicines, or donor-funded programmes and NGOs.
2. Prepare the dossier. A CTD dossier with a CoPP and the plant's GMP evidence. Documents in French help.
3. Apply to the DPM/MT. Allow six to nine months under the published procedures. Fees are lower for generics than for brands.
4. Plan the logistics. Agree the route, the port and the delivery terms in advance, given the security situation.

Semrush data from October 2026 shows that people in Haiti search mostly in French, for vitamin E (about 1,000 searches a month), vitamin D (880), vitamin C and whey protein (720 each) and collagen (590). Among medicines, metronidazole, fluconazole, ciprofloxacin, omeprazole and loratadine lead.

Medicines are typed by their French generic name, such as “ciprofloxacine” (about 820 a month), “azithromycine” (590) and “amoxicilline” (570); across Morocco, Algeria and Haiti combined, Google Keyword Planner puts “vitamine D”, “vitamine C” and “amoxicilline” between 10,000 and 100,000 monthly searches.

How importers and distributors in Haiti search

Across Morocco, Algeria and Haiti combined, “grossiste pharmaceutique” and “grossiste parapharmacie” each get between 100 and 1,000 monthly searches (Google Keyword Planner), while more specific phrases such as “distributeur de médicaments” and “fournisseur de médicaments” register only weakly.

Originator brands searched by name include Buscopan (hyoscine butylbromide), Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanic acid), Daflon (diosmin and hesperidin), Cipro (ciprofloxacin), Flagyl (metronidazole) and Nurofen (ibuprofen). Brand names are trademarks of their owners and are used only to identify the medicine.
