Product Description:

Dihydroartemisinin + piperaquine (DHA-PPQ) is an artemisinin-based combination therapy. Dihydroartemisinin acts fast and removes most parasites within a day, while piperaquine stays in the body for weeks, clearing the rest and giving some protection against new infection.

It treats uncomplicated falciparum and vivax malaria in adults and children, once a day for three days, dosed by weight and taken without a fatty meal. Its long tail of protection also makes it a choice for mass drug administration and preventive treatment in some programmes. Piperaquine can prolong the QT interval, so it is used with care with other medicines that do the same.

Sourcing notes. DHA-PPQ is made by several generic manufacturers, mostly in China and India, and is bought through Global Fund, PMI and national malaria programmes that require WHO prequalification or equivalent approval. It is also used in parts of South-East Asia where other combinations face resistance. Store below 30 °C in the original pack.
