Supplying Medicines and Supplements to Mozambique
A practical guide for Mozambican importers, distributors and hospital buyers who source from abroad, and for manufacturers and exporters worldwide selling into Mozambique.

Mozambique's regulator, ANARME, reached WHO maturity level 3 in August 2026, the first Portuguese-speaking African regulator to do so. It offers full, abridged, recognition and collaborative registration routes.
CMAM buys for the public sector, and Mozambique is an active member of ZAZIBONA, the southern African joint assessment. Watch foreign-exchange availability and public debt when you agree payment terms.

How to supply medicines to Mozambique
- Find a Mozambican importer. A local importer or distributor handles the registration and imports.
- Prepare the dossier. A CTD dossier with Module 1 in Portuguese, a CoPP and the plant's GMP evidence. Include zone IVb stability data.
- Choose the route. Full, abridged, recognition or collaborative review, or ZAZIBONA if you also want other southern African markets.
- Supply. Private pharmacies and distributors, or CMAM tenders for the public sector. Agree payment terms with foreign-exchange availability in mind.
For a medicine not registered in Mozambique, ask your importer whether a special import is possible for your case. See named-patient and special import and government tender supply.
Supplements
The Ministry of Health has published a registration checklist for nutritional supplements (suplementos nutricionais), so plan for registration and confirm the classification with ANARME before you print labels. We help brands get supplements made under their own label by GMP-certified contract manufacturers: see nutraceutical private label.
What people in Mozambique search for
Semrush data from October 2026 shows that people in Mozambique search in Portuguese: “creatina” gets about 1,000 searches a month, “proteinas” 880, “vitamina c” and “vitamina d” 720 each, and “vitamina b12” and whey protein 590 each.
Medicines are searched by their Portuguese generic names: “amoxicilina” (about 1,990 a month), “metronidazol” (1,970), “cotrimoxazol” (1,050), “ibuprofeno” (940) and “fluconazol” (890) (Semrush). Google Keyword Planner puts “farmácia”, “amoxicilina”, “metronidazol” and “ibuprofeno” each between 1,000 and 10,000 searches a month (October 2026).
How importers and distributors in Mozambique search
Buyers search the institutions by name: “anarme” and “cmam” each get between 100 and 1,000 searches a month (Google Keyword Planner). Trade phrases such as “distribuidora de medicamentos” or “importação de medicamentos” register only weakly.
Originator brands searched by name include Buscopan (hyoscine butylbromide). Brand names are trademarks of their owners and are used only to identify the medicine.
