Supplying Medicines and Supplements to Belize

A practical guide for Belizean importers, distributors and hospital buyers who source from abroad, and for manufacturers and exporters worldwide selling into Belize.

Belize sits between Central America and the Caribbean: it is a CARICOM member that takes part in the Caribbean Regulatory System, and its people search in both English and Spanish.

Products must be registered and licensed by the Director of Health Services before sale, with GMP and CPP certificates, for a fee of BZ$100 per product. All pharmaceutical customs entries are processed centrally by the Ministry of Health.

How to supply medicines to Belize

  1. Find a licensed importer. A Belizean importer licensed by the Ministry of Health handles the registration and imports.
  2. Prepare the documents. A CoPP and the plant's GMP certificate, with the product dossier.
  3. Use the regional route. If the product is approved by a stringent regulator or WHO-prequalified, a recommendation from the Caribbean Regulatory System (CRS), run by CARPHA, can support registration across CARICOM.
  4. Supply. Register and license the product before sale, keep the yearly import permit current, and give advance notice of each shipment.

For a medicine not registered in Belize, ask your importer whether a special import is possible for your case. See named-patient and special import and government tender supply.

Supplements

Belize's drug registry covers natural and medicinal products as well as pharmaceuticals. Confirm with the Ministry of Health how your supplement will be handled before you ship. We help brands get supplements made under their own label by GMP-certified contract manufacturers: see nutraceutical private label.

What people in Belize search for

Semrush data from October 2026 shows that people in Belize search for vitamin D, protein, vitamin C and vitamin E. Among medicines, levonorgestrel, ambroxol, acyclovir, metamizole and metronidazole are searched often.

People in Belize search in both English and Spanish. Next to “vitamin d” (about 320 a month) and “protein” (260), they type “collagen” (140) and its Spanish form “colágeno” (90), plus “prenatal vitamins” and “vitamin b complex” (110 each) (Semrush, October 2026). Medicine searches mix the two languages as well, from “aciclovir” (70) and “dipyrone” (60), another name for metamizole, to the Spanish “amoxicilina” (60).

How importers and distributors in Belize search

The only trade phrase that registers is “pharma wholesale”, at about 30 searches a month (Semrush, October 2026).

Originator brands searched by name include Buscopan (hyoscine butylbromide), Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanic acid), Primolut N (norethisterone), Lasix (furosemide) and Zyrtec (cetirizine). Brand names are trademarks of their owners and are used only to identify the medicine.
