Product Description:
Ofloxacin is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections in both systemic and localized forms. When administered orally or intravenously, it is effective against infections such as pneumonia, cellulitis, urinary tract infections, prostatitis, plague, and certain types of infectious diarrhea. It is also sometimes used in combination with other medications to manage multidrug-resistant tuberculosis.
In addition to systemic use, Ofloxacin is available in topical formulations. Ophthalmic solutions (eye drops) are used to treat superficial bacterial infections of the eye, such as conjunctivitis and corneal ulcers. Otic solutions (ear drops) are employed for treating outer and middle ear infections, including otitis media, especially when a perforation in the eardrum is present.
Ofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication, transcription, and repair, thereby preventing bacterial growth and leading to cell death. Its broad-spectrum activity, rapid onset of action, and versatile formulations make it a reliable choice for managing a wide range of bacterial infections under proper medical supervision.
