Product Description:
Glasdegib maleate is an orally administered small-molecule anticancer agent used primarily in the treatment of newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML). It is indicated for use in combination with low-dose cytarabine in adult patients who are 75 years of age or older, or in patients who are not suitable candidates for intensive chemotherapy due to comorbidities or overall health status. Glasdegib maleate is also being studied for its potential role in the treatment of other malignancies.
Glasdegib maleate is the maleate salt form of glasdegib and functions as a selective inhibitor of the Smoothened (SMO) receptor, a key component of the Hedgehog (Hh) signaling pathway. Upon oral administration, the drug binds to and inhibits SMO, leading to suppression of aberrant Hedgehog pathway activation. This pathway plays a critical role in cellular growth, differentiation, tissue repair, and the survival of cancer stem cells.
Constitutive activation of the Hedgehog signaling pathway has been observed in various cancers and is associated with uncontrolled tumor cell proliferation. By blocking this pathway, glasdegib maleate helps inhibit tumor growth and supports disease control in Hedgehog-dependent malignancies.
