Product Description:
Pafolacianine sodium is the sodium salt form of pafolacianine, a targeted fluorescent imaging agent developed to assist in the visualization of cancerous tissue during surgical procedures. It is composed of a folate receptor-alpha (FRα) targeting ligand that is chemically conjugated to a near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent dye. This targeted design allows the agent to selectively bind to tumor cells that overexpress FRα, a high-affinity folate-binding protein commonly found in several types of cancer.
After intravenous administration, pafolacianine sodium circulates in the body and specifically binds to FRα expressed on the surface of malignant cells. This targeted binding enables the selective delivery of the fluorescent dye to tumor tissue while minimizing uptake in healthy cells. When exposed to a compatible near-infrared imaging system during surgery, the bound dye emits fluorescence, causing FRα-overexpressing tumor cells to illuminate clearly.
This real-time fluorescence enables surgeons to accurately identify and differentiate malignant tissue from surrounding healthy tissue, supporting improved tumor visualization and more precise surgical resection. Pafolacianine sodium is particularly valuable in cancers known to exhibit high FRα expression and is used as an adjunct to standard surgical imaging techniques in oncology.
