Product Description:

Epirubicin is an anthracycline cytotoxic, a close relative of doxorubicin. It inserts between DNA base pairs and blocks topoisomerase II, so cancer cells cannot copy or repair their DNA. Its main use is adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer, usually in combination regimens. It is given into a fast-running intravenous infusion because it is a vesicant. Heart damage is cumulative, so lifetime dose is tracked and cardiac function checked. Bone marrow suppression is dose-limiting, and doses are reduced in liver impairment. Patients should know their urine may turn red for a day or two.
