Product Description:
Amphetamine is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant used primarily in the treatment of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), narcolepsy, and obesity. It is also employed in the management of binge eating disorder through its inactive prodrug, lisdexamfetamine. Chemically discovered in 1887 by Lazăr Edeleanu and later developed as a pharmaceutical in the late 1920s, amphetamine exists as two enantiomers: levoamphetamine and dextroamphetamine. The term “amphetamine” commonly refers to the racemic mixture of these enantiomers, though it may also denote either enantiomer individually.
Amphetamine functions by increasing the release of norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain, enhancing alertness, focus, and wakefulness. Historically, it was used for nasal congestion and depression. Beyond medical applications, amphetamine has been used as a cognitive and athletic performance enhancer, as well as recreationally for its euphoric and stimulating effects. Due to its high potential for abuse and dependence, amphetamine is a prescription-controlled substance in many countries, and unauthorized possession or distribution is strictly regulated. With careful medical supervision, amphetamine provides significant therapeutic benefits for neuropsychiatric and sleep-related disorders.
