Supplying Medicines and Supplements to Bolivia
A practical guide for Bolivian importers, distributors and hospital buyers who source from abroad, and for manufacturers and exporters worldwide selling into Bolivia.

Bolivia's rules are clear but strict. Only companies registered with AGEMED, as manufacturers or importers, can import, and they must hold the product's registration and legalised proof that they represent the foreign manufacturer.
Money is the thing to watch. A dollar shortage hit the industry hard in 2025, and in June 2026 the government ended the fixed exchange rate, a devaluation of roughly 40%. Agree payment terms carefully.

How to supply medicines to Bolivia
- Appoint your importer. A Bolivian company registered with AGEMED holds the registration. Give it legalised proof that it represents you.
- Legalise your documents. Get the CoPP from your origin regulator and have it legalised by a Bolivian consulate, together with GMP and analysis certificates.
- Register the product. Submit the dossier through your importer. A CTD-format dossier and the plant's GMP evidence make the review easier.
- Supply. Private distributors and pharmacies, or public supply through CEASS. Registered cancer medicines get fast import permits.
Commercial import of unregistered products is prohibited, and no current named-patient route was found. Registered cancer medicines get fast import permits. See named-patient and special import and government tender supply.
Supplements
Dietary supplements are registered with AGEMED, which publishes a separate manual for them. We help brands get supplements made under their own label by GMP-certified contract manufacturers: see nutraceutical private label.
