Product Description:
Tazarotene is a third-generation prescription topical retinoid widely used in dermatology for the treatment of plaque psoriasis and acne vulgaris. It belongs to the acetylenic class of retinoids and works by modulating gene expression involved in skin cell growth and differentiation. By normalizing keratinocyte proliferation and reducing inflammation, tazarotene helps improve abnormal skin turnover associated with acne and psoriasis.
In addition to its primary indications, tazarotene is also used as a therapeutic option for photoaged and photodamaged skin, where it helps improve skin texture, fine lines, and uneven pigmentation caused by long-term sun exposure. It is available in topical formulations such as creams and gels and is applied directly to affected areas under medical supervision.
For acne treatment, tazarotene is often used in combination with other therapies, including benzoyl peroxide or topical and oral antibiotics such as clindamycin or dapsone. Combination therapy has been shown to enhance treatment efficacy compared to tazarotene monotherapy. In the management of plaque psoriasis, combining tazarotene with mid- to high-potency topical corticosteroids provides superior clinical outcomes, improving lesion clearance while reducing irritation. When used appropriately, tazarotene is an effective and well-established option for chronic dermatological conditions.
