Product Description:

Somatrogon is a long-acting recombinant human growth hormone. The protein is human growth hormone fused to three copies of the C-terminal peptide of the human chorionic gonadotropin beta subunit — the same natural sequence that gives hCG its long circulating half-life. The fusion slows renal clearance enough to convert a daily injection into a weekly one, which in paediatric growth hormone deficiency changes roughly 365 injections a year into 52.

It is used for children with growth failure due to inadequate endogenous growth hormone secretion. Efficacy in trials was non-inferior to daily somatropin on annualised height velocity; the case for it rests on adherence rather than superior growth. Injection site reactions are more common than with daily preparations, which is the expected trade-off for the larger weekly dose.

Sourcing notes. A fusion-protein biologic, originator only, on patent. There is no generic route — any follow-on would be a biosimilar with its own comparability and clinical programme, which is not contract manufacturing in the sense buyers usually mean here. Cold chain throughout, 2-8°C, and the weekly dosing schedule makes continuity of supply more important to a paediatric endocrinology service than unit price.

How Somatrogon (Somatrogon-Ghla) is supplied today, and licensing ahead of patent expiry

Named-patient import Where a patient needs the product in a market where it is not registered, named-patient import is the lawful route. It requires the treating physician's documentation and authorisation from the destination regulator. We handle this pathway. Named-patient access
Authorised distribution For registered markets, supply runs through the manufacturer's authorised distribution channel. We can identify the authorised route for your market and tell you whether the product is registered there at all. Innovator sourcing
A genericised alternative Where the clinical requirement is the drug class rather than this specific molecule, there is often an off-patent alternative that is faster to register and materially cheaper. Tell us the indication and target market and we will say plainly whether one exists. Discuss alternatives
Licensing and generic development Patents expire country by country, and in many countries development and dossier filing can start before expiry under research and regulatory-review exemptions. We connect manufacturers developing this molecule, dossier holders, licensees and tech-transfer partners for markets where it is, or will become, off-patent. Partner on this molecule
