It acts on both alpha and beta adrenergic receptors: alpha-mediated vasoconstriction reverses hypotension and mucosal oedema, while beta effects produce bronchodilation and increased cardiac output. Antihistamines and corticosteroids are adjuncts, and delay in administering epinephrine is the principal factor in fatal outcomes.
