Product Description:

Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of growth hormone-releasing factor, stabilised against rapid breakdown. It does not supply growth hormone; it prompts the pituitary to release its own, in the body's natural pulsatile pattern, which preserves the feedback loops that are lost when growth hormone itself is injected. The target is visceral adipose tissue — the metabolically active fat around the abdominal organs, which is particularly sensitive to growth hormone's lipolytic effect.

It is licensed for one specific problem: the excess visceral abdominal fat that develops in people with HIV-associated lipodystrophy, a disfiguring and metabolically harmful body-shape change linked to long-term antiretroviral therapy. It reduces visceral fat while largely sparing subcutaneous fat, and the effect reverses if treatment stops. Injection site reactions, arthralgia, oedema and raised blood glucose occur; glucose tolerance requires monitoring, and it is contraindicated in active malignancy and pregnancy.

Sourcing notes. Originator product, on patent, with approval largely confined to the United States — confirm registration per destination. It is worth being explicit with buyers that this is not a general weight-loss treatment and is not licensed as one. Supplied as powder for reconstitution; cold chain requirements differ between presentations, so confirm which.

How Tesamorelin Acetate is supplied today, and licensing ahead of patent expiry

Named-patient import Where a patient needs the product in a market where it is not registered, named-patient import is the lawful route. It requires the treating physician's documentation and authorisation from the destination regulator. We handle this pathway. Named-patient access
Authorised distribution For registered markets, supply runs through the manufacturer's authorised distribution channel. We can identify the authorised route for your market and tell you whether the product is registered there at all. Innovator sourcing
A genericised alternative Where the clinical requirement is the drug class rather than this specific molecule, there is often an off-patent alternative that is faster to register and materially cheaper. Tell us the indication and target market and we will say plainly whether one exists. Discuss alternatives
Licensing and generic development Patents expire country by country, and in many countries development and dossier filing can start before expiry under research and regulatory-review exemptions. We connect manufacturers developing this molecule, dossier holders, licensees and tech-transfer partners for markets where it is, or will become, off-patent. Partner on this molecule
