DILL OIL+SIMETHICONE is a combination of two medicines (simethicone+dil oil). Simethicone is an antifoaming medicine that disintegrates gas bubbles and allows easy passage of gas.

Product Description:

This solution combines simethicone, a silicone antifoaming agent, with dill seed oil. Simethicone is not absorbed and lowers the surface tension of trapped gas bubbles so they merge and are passed more easily. Dill oil, a traditional carminative, contains carvone and is used for its antispasmodic and wind-relieving effect on the gut. The combination descends from gripe water, the traditional infant colic remedy.

It is used for wind, colic and bloating in infants and young children, and sometimes in adults. Infant colic usually resolves on its own by three to four months, and evidence that either ingredient changes its course is limited. The product is safe, but it is important that crying is not assumed to be colic when it may have another cause. Traditional gripe waters contained alcohol and sometimes sodium bicarbonate; modern formulations exclude both, and regulators increasingly expect alcohol-free, sugar-free infant products.

Sourcing notes. Registered mainly in South Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Dill oil is a natural product, so its identity, carvone content and contaminant limits need specifying. The emulsion must remain stable without separation, and preservative choice is critical for an infant product that is used repeatedly after opening.
