Product Description:
Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a topical dental solution widely used for the management and arrest of dental caries. In recent years, it has gained significant popularity among clinicians and patients because of its ability to stop the progression of cavities quickly and effectively after application. SDF is especially useful in preventive and minimally invasive dentistry, making it an important option for treating young children, elderly patients, and individuals with special healthcare needs who may not tolerate complex dental procedures.
The effectiveness of silver diamine fluoride is attributed to the combined actions of silver and fluoride. Silver provides strong antibacterial properties that help reduce the number of cariogenic bacteria responsible for tooth decay, while fluoride supports the remineralization of tooth structure and strengthens enamel and dentin. Studies have shown that SDF can inhibit the growth of harmful oral bacteria and disrupt biofilm formation, which plays a key role in the development of dental caries. In addition, SDF has demonstrated activity against certain fungal organisms such as Candida species.
Another important benefit of SDF treatment is its ability to increase the surface microhardness of carious lesions. By enhancing mineral deposition and supporting calcium uptake in tooth tissues, it helps reduce dentin demineralization and stabilizes affected areas of the tooth. Due to these properties, silver diamine fluoride is increasingly recognized as an effective and practical solution for modern caries management programs.
