Product Description:

Orforglipron is a GLP-1 receptor agonist, the same drug class as semaglutide and liraglutide. Like them it lowers appetite, slows stomach emptying and improves blood sugar control. Unlike them it is a small, non-peptide molecule, so it is made by ordinary chemical synthesis and taken as a once-daily tablet. It does not need the absorption enhancer and strict fasting routine that oral semaglutide needs.

The US FDA approved orforglipron in April 2026 as Foundayo for adults with obesity, or overweight with at least one weight-related condition, alongside diet and exercise. The UK MHRA authorised it in August 2026 for weight management and type 2 diabetes. Treatment starts at a low dose and is stepped up through six tablet strengths, from 0.8 mg to 17.2 mg, to limit nausea and other stomach side effects.

Sourcing and licensing notes. Orforglipron is new and patented, and Eli Lilly is the only manufacturer; there is no generic. Because it is a synthetic small molecule, it is likely to draw strong interest from generic developers well before its patents expire. We handle enquiries for authorised supply of Foundayo where it is registered or allowed under an import permit, and we connect API makers, formulators and licensees planning ahead.

How Orforglipron Tablets is supplied today, and licensing ahead of patent expiry

Named-patient import Where a patient needs the product in a market where it is not registered, named-patient import is the lawful route. It requires the treating physician's documentation and authorisation from the destination regulator. We handle this pathway. Named-patient access
Authorised distribution For registered markets, supply runs through the manufacturer's authorised distribution channel. We can identify the authorised route for your market and tell you whether the product is registered there at all. Innovator sourcing
A genericised alternative Where the clinical requirement is the drug class rather than this specific molecule, there is often an off-patent alternative that is faster to register and materially cheaper. Tell us the indication and target market and we will say plainly whether one exists. Discuss alternatives
Licensing and generic development Patents expire country by country, and in many countries development and dossier filing can start before expiry under research and regulatory-review exemptions. We connect manufacturers developing this molecule, dossier holders, licensees and tech-transfer partners for markets where it is, or will become, off-patent. Partner on this molecule
