Product Description:
Metamizole sodium, also known as dipyrone, is a widely used non-opioid analgesic, antipyretic, and antispasmodic medication belonging to the pyrazolone (aminopyrine sulfonate) class. It is commonly prescribed for the management of moderate to severe pain, including postoperative pain, colic, and musculoskeletal conditions, as well as high fever that does not respond to conventional treatments. One of its key advantages is its additional spasm-relieving effect, making it particularly effective in conditions such as renal and biliary colic.
Metamizole sodium can be administered orally or via intravenous and intramuscular routes, depending on the clinical requirement and urgency of treatment. It works primarily by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis and acting centrally to reduce pain perception and regulate body temperature. First introduced in the early 20th century and initially marketed in Germany under the brand name Novalgin, it later gained widespread popularity in countries such as India, Russia, and across Latin America under names like Analgin and Dipirona.
Although highly effective, metamizole sodium is restricted or not approved in certain countries due to rare but serious adverse effects such as agranulocytosis. Nonetheless, it remains an important therapeutic option in many regulated markets under medical supervision.
