Product Description:

Methocarbamol is a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant, a carbamate derivative of guaifenesin. Its mechanism is not precisely defined; it appears to act through general depression of the central nervous system rather than any direct effect on muscle fibres or the neuromuscular junction. It reduces the painful reflex spasm that follows musculoskeletal injury.

It is used for short-term relief of discomfort from acute musculoskeletal conditions, alongside rest and physiotherapy, and the injection is used where oral treatment is not possible and in tetanus as an adjunct to controlling spasm. Drowsiness and dizziness are the common effects, and it should not be combined with alcohol or other sedatives. Patients should be told that urine may turn brown, black or green on standing, which is harmless but alarming if unexpected. The injectable form contains polyethylene glycol 300 as a solvent, which is why it is avoided in renal impairment, and it must be given slowly to avoid hypotension and fainting.
