Nimesulide is a pain-relieving medicine. It is used for the treatment of inflammatory conditions including joint disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, postoperative painful condition, fever, and period pain.

Product Description:

Nimesulide is a sulfonanilide NSAID with relative COX-2 selectivity. It acts quickly and is effective for acute pain, and it also has effects on histamine release and free radicals that are sometimes cited in its favour. Its pharmacology, however, is not what determines its place in the market.

Nimesulide has been associated with serious, sometimes fatal liver injury, and regulators have responded differently. It was never approved in the United States. Several countries, including Ireland, Spain and Finland, withdrew it. The European Medicines Agency reviewed it and restricted it to second-line use for acute pain and primary dysmenorrhoea, limited to a maximum of fifteen days, and withdrew the topical and paediatric formulations from that scope. India prohibits its use in children under twelve. Where it is used it should follow those limits: short courses, second-line, adults only, stopping immediately if symptoms of liver injury appear.

Sourcing notes. Registration and permitted indications differ more for nimesulide than for almost any other analgesic, so the destination market's exact position must be confirmed before quoting, including whether the formulation in question is permitted at all. Labelling must carry the local restriction and duration limit.
