Meclofenamate is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve mild to moderate pain, inflammation, and fever. It works by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, which reduces inflammation and pain in conditions such as arthritis or menstrual discomfort.

Product Description:

Meclofenamate is a fenamate NSAID, a chemical relative of mefenamic acid. Beyond inhibiting COX enzymes, fenamates also block prostaglandin receptors directly, which may explain their particular usefulness in period pain and heavy menstrual bleeding, where prostaglandins drive both cramping and blood loss.

It is used for mild to moderate pain, for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, and specifically for primary dysmenorrhoea and heavy menstrual bleeding, where it reduces both pain and measured blood loss. Its limiting adverse effect is diarrhoea, which is markedly more common than with other NSAIDs — affecting a substantial minority of patients and often leading them to stop. It can be severe enough to require withdrawal. Standard NSAID risks apply otherwise: gastrointestinal bleeding, kidney impairment, fluid retention and cardiovascular risk. It interacts with anticoagulants, methotrexate and lithium.

Sourcing notes. Off patent, with a very narrow supplier base; the originator brand has been discontinued and registration is limited, mainly to the US. Mefenamic acid is the more widely registered fenamate and the realistic alternative in most markets. Buyers should confirm local registration before pursuing supply.
