Cefprozil is a second-generation oral cephalosporin with a balanced spectrum: reliable activity against streptococci and methicillin-susceptible staphylococci, together with Gram-negative cover including Haemophilus influenzae and Moraxella catarrhalis. That combination suits the organisms actually responsible for otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis and bronchitis exacerbations, which are its established indications.

It is supplied as 250 and 500 mg tablets and as oral suspension at 125 and 250 mg per 5 mL, dosed once or twice daily.

Its practical advantage over cefaclor is greater beta-lactamase stability, and over third-generation oral agents such as cefixime, meaningfully better staphylococcal cover — relevant where skin and soft tissue involvement is possible.
