Cefixime+Potassium Clavulanate / Clavulanic acid is used to treat severe bacterial infections of the urinary tract, ear, lungs, throat, tonsil and skin or infections like typhoid fever or gonorrhoea.

Product Description:

This fixed-dose combination pairs cefixime, a third-generation oral cephalosporin, with potassium clavulanate, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. The rationale offered is protection of cefixime from beta-lactamase hydrolysis, extending its spectrum against resistant organisms.

The pharmacological basis is disputed and this should be established before quoting. Cefixime is already relatively stable against many common beta-lactamases, and clavulanate's inhibitory profile does not align well with the enzymes that do degrade it. Clavulanate is conventionally paired with amoxicillin, where the pharmacokinetics match and the evidence is extensive. Fixed combinations of a third-generation cephalosporin with clavulanate are marketed in India and a few neighbouring markets but are not approved in the United States, the European Union or other stringent regulatory jurisdictions, and have attracted regulatory scrutiny on antimicrobial resistance grounds.
