Product Description:

Cannabidiol is a purified, pharmaceutical-grade cannabinoid from Cannabis sativa, prepared as an oral solution. It is not psychoactive — it has little affinity for the CB1 receptor that produces the effects of THC — and its anticonvulsant mechanism is still not settled; proposed actions include modulation of GPR55 signalling, TRPV1 desensitisation and inhibition of adenosine reuptake.

It is used for seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, Dravet syndrome and tuberous sclerosis complex, in patients from one year of age, added to existing antiepileptics. In controlled trials it reduced seizure frequency meaningfully in conditions that had resisted every available drug. Two interactions define its safe use. With valproate it causes transaminase elevations often enough that liver function must be monitored, and with clobazam it raises the active metabolite several-fold, increasing sedation — which is why dose adjustment is usually needed. Somnolence, diarrhoea and appetite loss are common.
