Product Description:

Fludrocortisone acetate is the acetate salt of a synthetic fluorinated corticosteroid with potent mineralocorticoid activity and additional anti-inflammatory and antiallergic properties. It acts as a glucocorticoid-receptor agonist by binding to cytoplasmic receptors, followed by translocation of the drug–receptor complex into the cell nucleus. This process initiates transcription of glucocorticoid-responsive genes, including lipocortins, which inhibit phospholipase A2 (PLA2). Inhibition of PLA2 prevents the release of arachidonic acid, thereby reducing the formation of pro-inflammatory eicosanoids such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes that play a key role in inflammatory and allergic responses.

In addition to its glucocorticoid effects, fludrocortisone acetate exhibits strong mineralocorticoid-receptor agonist activity. It enhances sodium reabsorption and water retention while promoting potassium and hydrogen ion excretion in the distal renal tubules and collecting ducts. These actions help regulate electrolyte balance and maintain blood pressure.
