Vinorelbine is an anti-cancer medication used in the treatment of breast cancer and non-small cell lung cancer.

Product Description:

Vinorelbine is a semisynthetic vinca alkaloid modified on the catharanthine ring, and the modification changes which microtubules it targets. It acts preferentially on mitotic spindle microtubules and has much less effect on the axonal microtubules that carry signals along nerves, so it causes markedly less peripheral neuropathy than vincristine or vinblastine while retaining antitumour activity.

It is used for advanced non-small cell lung cancer, alone or with a platinum agent, and for metastatic breast cancer after anthracycline and taxane treatment, usually on a weekly schedule. Neutropenia is the dose-limiting toxicity and counts are checked before every dose. It is a vesicant and extravasation causes severe tissue injury, so administration is through a secure line, run fast and flushed generously — prolonged vein contact causes phlebitis and pain. Constipation, ileus, nausea and fatigue occur; mild neuropathy accumulates slowly.

An oral soft capsule presentation also exists and is a genuinely different product with different dosing and its own supply chain — specify which is required. The injection needs refrigerated storage at 2–8 degrees, protection from light, and cytotoxic containment throughout.
