Product Description:
Salmeterol xinafoate is a long-acting β2-adrenergic receptor agonist (LABA) used for the treatment and prevention of asthma symptoms and for the long-term management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It works by relaxing the smooth muscles in the airways, which helps to open the bronchi and improve airflow, making it easier to breathe. Salmeterol is effective in controlling symptoms such as shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing, and chest tightness associated with bronchospasm.
In addition to chronic management, salmeterol is also used to prevent breathing difficulties triggered by exercise, known as exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. Its long-acting nature provides sustained bronchodilation, typically lasting up to 12 hours, which allows for twice-daily dosing as part of a maintenance therapy plan.
Salmeterol is generally administered via inhalation using dry powder inhalers or metered-dose inhalers and is often combined with inhaled corticosteroids to optimize asthma control. While highly effective for symptom management, it is not intended for immediate relief of acute asthma attacks, and patients are advised to use a short-acting bronchodilator for sudden symptoms. Its targeted action makes it an essential therapy in the management of chronic respiratory conditions.
