Product Description:
Pioglitazone Hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt of an orally active thiazolidinedione with antidiabetic properties and potential antineoplastic activity. It belongs to the TZD class and acts primarily by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ), a ligand-activated transcription factor that regulates the expression of genes involved in glucose and lipid metabolism. Activation of PPAR-γ improves insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues and the liver, enhances adipocyte differentiation, and modulates the transcription of insulin-responsive genes, helping to lower blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Pioglitazone also exhibits additional cellular effects, including inhibition of macrophage and monocyte activation, induction of cell differentiation, and suppression of cell growth and angiogenesis, which may contribute to its potential antineoplastic properties. The medication is administered orally in tablet form and can be used alone or in combination with other antidiabetic agents such as metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin, along with diet and exercise. Sold under brand names such as Actos®, Glustin®, and other regional brands, pioglitazone hydrochloride provides a versatile option for improving glycemic control and potentially modulating other metabolic and cellular pathways.
