Measles Vaccine (Live) + Mumps Virus Vaccine + Rubella vaccine (Live) is a combination of three vaccines, which prevents measles, mumps, and rubella. It helps develop immunity by initiating a mild infection. This type of infection does not cause illness but stimulates the body's immune system to produce antibodies (proteins) to protect against any future infections.

Measles, mumps and rubella vaccine combines three live attenuated viruses, weakened so they replicate enough to provoke immunity without causing disease. A single dose produces measles immunity in around ninety-three percent of recipients and two doses in about ninety-seven percent, with lifelong protection for most. It is one of the most effective vaccines ever developed, and measles is one of the most contagious diseases known, so population coverage above ninety-five percent is needed to stop transmission.

It is given in childhood, typically at around nine to twelve months with a second dose later, with schedules varying by country according to local measles epidemiology. Fever and a mild rash a week or so after vaccination are common and reflect viral replication. It is contraindicated in significant immunosuppression and in pregnancy, as with all live vaccines. The claimed link with autism was based on fraudulent research, has been disproven repeatedly in very large studies, and the resulting coverage drops have caused measles deaths.

Sourcing notes. A cold chain product, supplied as lyophilised powder with diluent and reconstituted immediately before use, with a strict discard time after opening. Multi-dose vials dominate programme supply on cost, at the price of wastage. WHO prequalification governs UNICEF and PAHO eligibility.
