This tablet combines lactoferrin with disodium guanosine 5'-monophosphate and elemental iron. Lactoferrin is an iron-binding glycoprotein found in milk and mucosal secretions; it regulates how iron is absorbed and handled, and it has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity. Pairing it with elemental iron is intended to improve tolerance compared with ferrous salts alone, since much of the gastrointestinal upset from conventional iron comes from unabsorbed free iron in the gut. Guanosine monophosphate is a nucleotide.

The formulation is used for iron deficiency anaemia, including in pregnancy, where tolerability determines whether a patient completes treatment. Small studies, mostly from India and Italy, report haemoglobin improvements comparable to ferrous salts with fewer gastrointestinal complaints, but the evidence base is limited and lactoferrin is not yet a guideline-recommended alternative. Anaemia should be investigated before treatment, since not all anaemia is iron deficiency. People with cow's milk protein allergy should avoid bovine lactoferrin.

Sourcing notes. Lactoferrin quality varies with purity, iron saturation and heat damage during processing, and these belong in the specification along with the iron salt used and its elemental iron content. Classification ranges from supplement to registered medicine depending on the anaemia claim made.
