Product Description:
Iothalamic acid is an iodine-containing radiographic contrast agent marketed under the brand name Conray. It is supplied clinically in the form of its water-soluble salts, sodium iothalamate and meglumine iothalamate, which allow safe and effective administration during diagnostic imaging procedures. These formulations enhance radiographic visibility by absorbing X-rays, thereby improving visualization of anatomical structures and body cavities.
Iothalamic acid may be administered intravenously for imaging studies such as angiography and urography, or intravesically for direct instillation into the urinary bladder during specialized diagnostic procedures. Its pharmacokinetic profile enables rapid renal excretion, making it suitable for urinary tract imaging.
In addition to conventional contrast formulations, a radioactive form is available as sodium iothalamate I-125 injection, marketed under the brand name Glofil-125. This radiolabeled formulation is specifically indicated for the evaluation of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and is used in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with renal impairment or kidney disease.
