Product Description:
Etamsylate (also spelled ethamsylate) is a hemostatic or anti-hemorrhagic agent widely used to prevent and control bleeding in various clinical conditions. It primarily acts on the microcirculation by improving the stability and resistance of capillary walls, thereby reducing abnormal bleeding. The drug enhances platelet adhesion and supports the formation of an effective hemostatic plug without significantly affecting the overall coagulation cascade.
One of the key mechanisms of etamsylate is its ability to inhibit the biosynthesis and activity of certain prostaglandins that are responsible for platelet disaggregation, vasodilation, and increased capillary permeability. By reducing these effects, etamsylate helps maintain vascular integrity and minimizes blood loss. It is commonly used in conditions such as menorrhagia (heavy menstrual bleeding), perioperative bleeding, dental procedures, and other situations involving fragile capillaries.
Etamsylate is generally well tolerated and can be administered in both oral and injectable forms depending on the clinical need. Its targeted action on capillaries and platelets makes it a valuable option for managing bleeding disorders where capillary fragility is a major concern.
