Product Description:

Dexketoprofen is the S(+) enantiomer of ketoprofen, and the enantiomer that carries the COX-inhibiting activity. Removing the inactive R(-) form allows roughly half the milligram dose for the same effect, and it acts quickly: the trometamol salt is absorbed fast, with onset within about thirty minutes, which is why it is positioned for acute pain rather than chronic inflammatory disease.

It is used for mild to moderate acute pain — dental and post-operative pain, musculoskeletal injury, period pain — and the injection is used for post-operative and renal colic pain. Courses are short by design, usually a few days. The NSAID class cautions apply in full: gastrointestinal bleeding and ulceration, kidney impairment, fluid retention, raised blood pressure and cardiovascular risk, all rising with dose and duration. It is contraindicated in active peptic ulceration, severe heart failure, severe renal impairment and in the third trimester of pregnancy. Gastroprotection is advised for patients at risk.
