Deuruxolitinib is an oral Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor used for the treatment of severe alopecia areata. It works by blocking JAK signaling pathways that drive autoimmune inflammation responsible for hair loss. Leqselvi helps promote hair regrowth in patients with extensive scalp and eyebrow involvement through targeted immune modulation.

Product Description:

Deuruxolitinib is a deuterated form of ruxolitinib, a JAK1 and JAK2 inhibitor. Replacing hydrogen with deuterium at the sites where the molecule is metabolised slows its breakdown, giving higher and steadier blood levels from a smaller dose. In alopecia areata the hair follicle is attacked by cytotoxic T cells driven by interferon-gamma and interleukin-15 signalling, both of which run through JAK1 and JAK2 — blocking them allows the follicle to recover.

It is used for severe alopecia areata in adults, taken twice daily. In trials around a third to a half of patients regrew most of their scalp hair by six to nine months. Because JAK inhibition is systemic, the class warnings apply: serious infection, tuberculosis reactivation, herpes zoster, thrombosis, cardiovascular events and malignancy, with screening before starting and blood count and lipid monitoring during. One requirement is specific to this drug: patients who are CYP2C9 poor metabolisers reach much higher exposures, so genotyping is required and the drug is contraindicated in that group.
