Product Description:
Desloratadine is a second-generation antihistamine and the main active metabolite of loratadine. It blocks peripheral H1 receptors for a full day and barely enters the brain, so drowsiness is uncommon. This page lists tablets of 5 mg and 2.5 mg. The 5 mg film-coated tablet is the standard once-daily dose for adults and adolescents. The 2.5 mg strength is mainly an orodispersible tablet for children aged 6 to 11, which melts on the tongue without water.
Labels cover symptom relief in seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and in urticaria, including chronic hives of unknown cause. It is a maintenance option, not an emergency medicine, and often sits alongside a nasal steroid. One tablet is taken daily, with or without food. Clinically relevant interactions are few. Prescribers take care in severe renal impairment and in patients with a history of seizures. A minority of people clear the drug slowly, which the product information notes.
Sourcing notes. Desloratadine is prescription-only in some markets and sold over the counter in others, so check the local schedule before quoting. Ask for a CTD or ACTD dossier with bioequivalence data and zone IVb stability for hot, humid regions. Tablets are normally packed in aluminium blisters kept below 30 °C; orodispersible tablets need especially tight moisture protection. No cold chain is needed. Request a CoA for each batch, a GMP certificate and a CoPP. In your enquiry, say whether you want film-coated or orodispersible tablets, plus strength, pack count and label language.
