Product Description:

Delamanid belongs to the nitroimidazole class. It blocks the production of mycolic acids, which tuberculosis bacteria need to build their thick cell wall. It works against strains resistant to isoniazid and rifampicin, and it is one of the medicines WHO recommends for longer regimens for multidrug-resistant and rifampicin-resistant TB (MDR/RR-TB), including in children.

Delamanid is taken twice a day with food. The 25 mg dispersible tablet can be dissolved in water for young children. Because it can affect heart rhythm, an ECG is checked during treatment, especially when it is combined with bedaquiline.

Sourcing notes. Most delamanid is bought by national TB programmes, often through the Global Drug Facility and similar pooled-procurement channels.
