This capsule combines cranberry extract with D-mannose, a simple sugar. Cranberry contains A-type proanthocyanidins that can reduce the ability of E. coli to attach to the bladder lining. D-mannose is excreted into the urine, where it is thought to bind the bacterial adhesins that E. coli uses to grip bladder cells, so bacteria are flushed out rather than settling. Both are marketed to help prevent recurrent urinary tract infections.

The evidence is mixed. Cranberry products have shown a modest reduction in recurrent UTIs in some groups, particularly women with frequent infections, while other trials found no benefit. A large randomised trial published in 2024 found that D-mannose did not reduce recurrence in women compared with placebo. Neither ingredient treats an active infection, which needs medical assessment. Cranberry may interact with warfarin, and D-mannose adds a small sugar load.

Sourcing notes. Buyers should specify the dose of each component when enquiring. Cranberry extracts vary enormously in proanthocyanidin content, and the analytical method used to measure it changes the figure, so the specification should name the method. Label claims are tightly controlled in the EU and must fit supplement rules elsewhere.
