Product Description:

This is the dry syrup presentation of cefixime, supplied as a powder for reconstitution with water at the point of dispensing rather than as a ready-made liquid. That construction is deliberate: cephalosporins in aqueous solution degrade quickly, so a shelf-stable powder reconstituted to a suspension with a short in-use life is the only practical way to supply a paediatric liquid.

It is the dominant cefixime presentation in paediatric practice, used for otitis media, pharyngitis and urinary tract infection, at strengths from 25 mg per mL through 50 and 100 mg per 5 mL.

Sourcing notes. Two specifications govern this product and both belong in the purchase order rather than the enquiry. The reconstituted shelf life — commonly seven to fourteen days refrigerated — determines pharmacy handling and patient instructions. The stability data zone determines whether the product survives its destination: Zone IVb data is required for hot and humid markets across South Asia, Southeast Asia and much of Africa, and its absence is the most common reason a dry syrup fails registration or arrives degraded.
