Product Description:
Nisoldipine is a calcium channel blocker belonging to the dihydropyridine class and is used in the treatment of hypertension and chronic angina pectoris. In the United States, it is marketed under the proprietary name Sular. Nisoldipine has a selective action on vascular smooth muscle, particularly in cardiac and peripheral blood vessels, which allows it to effectively reduce blood pressure and improve blood flow to the heart.
The drug works by inhibiting the movement of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle cells, leading to relaxation and widening of blood vessels. This vasodilatory effect lowers systemic vascular resistance, making it easier for the heart to pump blood and reducing cardiac workload. As a result, nisoldipine helps control elevated blood pressure and decreases the frequency and severity of angina episodes.
Nisoldipine is commonly administered as an extended-release oral tablet, allowing for consistent blood pressure control throughout the day. It can be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive medications, making it a flexible option in cardiovascular therapy. When used under proper medical supervision, nisoldipine provides effective long-term management of hypertension while supporting overall cardiovascular function.
