Midazolam is a prescription medicine used for sedation. It helps to decrease the abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells and calms the brain.

Product Description:

Midazolam is a short-acting benzodiazepine, unusual in being water-soluble at the acidic pH of its formulation and lipid-soluble at body pH. That property allows painless injection and rapid entry into the brain, with onset in minutes and a short duration, which is precisely what is needed for procedural work.

It is used for sedation before and during procedures, for induction of anaesthesia, for sedation of ventilated patients in intensive care, and as first-line treatment for prolonged seizures and status epilepticus, including buccal and intranasal routes where intravenous access is not available. It causes anterograde amnesia, which is often desirable for an unpleasant procedure. The dominant risk is respiratory depression, particularly when combined with opioids, and it should only be given where airway support, monitoring and flumazenil are immediately available. Doses are reduced substantially in older and frail patients. Prolonged infusion in intensive care leads to accumulation and dependence.
