Product Description:

Fulvestrant is a selective oestrogen receptor degrader, or SERD. It binds the oestrogen receptor, blocks it fully and speeds its breakdown, so hormone-sensitive breast cancer cells lose a key growth signal. This page lists 250 mg/5 mL solution for injection in a prefilled glass syringe. Being poorly water-soluble, it is formulated as a viscous oily solution in castor oil with alcohol co-solvents, which forms an intramuscular depot and allows monthly dosing after loading.

Fulvestrant is used for oestrogen receptor-positive, locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer in postmenopausal women, alone or with a CDK4/6 inhibitor such as palbociclib, ribociclib or abemaciclib, and with ovarian suppression in premenopausal women where labelled. The dose is 500 mg, given as two 5 mL injections, one into each buttock, slowly, on days 1, 15 and 29 and monthly after that. Care is needed near the sciatic nerve, and in bleeding disorders, low platelets or anticoagulant use. Hot flushes and injection site reactions are common.
