Product Description:
Dyclonine hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt of dyclonine, an unclassified local anesthetic used for topical anesthesia of the oral and pharyngeal mucosa. It produces a reversible loss of sensation by binding to activated sodium channels on neuronal membranes. This action reduces the membrane’s permeability to sodium ions, increases the threshold for neuronal excitation, and stabilizes the nerve membrane. As a result, depolarization is inhibited, preventing the propagation of action potentials and causing a temporary conduction blockade at the site of application.
Through this mechanism, dyclonine hydrochloride provides rapid, localized, and reversible anesthesia without affecting deeper tissues or systemic nerve function. It is commonly used to relieve pain, irritation, and discomfort associated with sore throat and minor oral conditions. Dyclonine, also known as dyclocaine, is the active anesthetic ingredient in Sucrets, an over-the-counter throat lozenge widely used for symptomatic relief. It is also present in certain formulations of Cepacol sore throat sprays.
Dyclonine hydrochloride is intended for topical use only and is formulated as lozenges, sprays, or oral solutions, allowing targeted delivery and effective symptom relief in the mouth and throat.
