Product Description:

Dolutegravir is an integrase inhibitor: it stops HIV inserting its genetic material into human cells. It is now the backbone of HIV treatment worldwide. This 10 mg tablet is scored and dissolves in a small amount of water, so it can be given to babies and young children who cannot swallow tablets, and doses can be split.

It is used with two other HIV medicines (usually abacavir + lamivudine) for children from 4 weeks of age and at least 3 kg, with the number of tablets set by weight band. Before it was available, young children were left on older, harder-to-take treatments; paediatric dolutegravir has improved how many children reach an undetectable viral load.
