Product Description:
Docetaxel is a taxane cytotoxic. It stabilises microtubules so they cannot break down, which stops dividing cells completing mitosis. This page covers concentrate for solution for infusion at 20 mg/mL, in 20 mg/1 mL, 80 mg/4 mL and 160 mg/8 mL vials. One shared concentration lets pharmacies combine vial sizes to match the calculated dose and cut waste. Single-vial concentrates have largely replaced the older two-vial presentation. The concentrate is always diluted in sodium chloride 0.9% or glucose 5% before infusion.
Docetaxel is used in breast cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, metastatic prostate cancer with prednisone or prednisolone, gastric adenocarcinoma and head and neck cancer. It is usually given as a one-hour infusion every three weeks, dosed by body surface area. An oral corticosteroid premedication limits fluid retention and hypersensitivity reactions. Neutropenia is dose-limiting, so blood counts are checked before each cycle. Liver impairment raises the risk of severe toxicity, and strong CYP3A4 inhibitors increase exposure. Most formulations contain polysorbate 80 and ethanol.
Sourcing notes. Docetaxel is on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines. Expect a CTD or ACTD dossier with stability data for the labelled storage condition; some products are kept below 25 °C and others refrigerated, so confirm before planning transport. Cartons should protect vials from light. As a cytotoxic, it is packed, labelled and handled under hazardous-drug rules. Request a CoA per batch, the GMP certificate, a CoPP and the excipient list, including ethanol content. State vial sizes, quantity per size, shelf life at delivery and registration country.
