Product Description:

Aluminium hydroxide is one of the oldest antacids. It reacts with stomach acid to form aluminium chloride and water, raising gastric pH gently over a fairly long period. This page covers 500 mg chewable tablets. The chewable form is the pocket version of an antacid: no water or measuring spoon is needed, and chewing breaks the tablet into fine particles that meet the acid quickly. Pharmacies like it as a light, solid pack that is easy to stock.

The tablets are used for heartburn, acid indigestion and dyspepsia, taken after meals, at bedtime or when symptoms appear, and chewed well before swallowing. Constipation is the usual side effect, and long, heavy use can deplete phosphate. Aluminium hydroxide also binds dietary phosphate and was once widely used in kidney failure, but aluminium can accumulate when the kidneys fail, so other binders are now preferred. Antacids reduce absorption of tetracyclines, quinolones, iron and levothyroxine, so doses are separated by about two hours.

Sourcing notes. Many markets sell these tablets over the counter or through pharmacies, but rules differ, so confirm the status before quoting. Ask for a CTD or ACTD dossier that includes acid-neutralising capacity results and zone IVb stability for tropical markets. Chewable tablets absorb moisture and can soften, so check hardness and friability data and ask for moisture-protective blisters or tightly closed bottles. Request a CoA per batch and the GMP certificate, plus a CoPP if your regulator needs one. Give the flavour, pack size and label language in your enquiry.
