Alfuzosin is an oral alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men. It works by relaxing the muscles of the prostate and bladder neck, improving urine flow and reducing urinary symptoms. The drug is available as extended-release tablets, typically 10 mg once daily with food. It helps manage urinary retention, frequent urination, and difficulty in urination associated with an enlarged prostate.

Product Description:

Alfuzosin hydrochloride is a quinazoline derivative and a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist with smooth muscle–relaxing properties. It acts by blocking post-synaptic alpha-1 adrenoreceptors located in the smooth muscle of the prostate, bladder neck, bladder base, prostatic capsule, and prostatic urethra. By inhibiting these receptors, alfuzosin promotes relaxation of smooth muscle in the lower urinary tract, leading to improved urine flow and reduction of symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), such as urinary hesitancy, weak stream, and incomplete bladder emptying.

In addition to its effects on the urinary tract, alfuzosin also blocks alpha-1 receptors in peripheral vascular smooth muscle, which may result in vasodilation and a decrease in peripheral vascular resistance. Due to its targeted action, alfuzosin is widely used in the management of moderate to severe BPH symptoms and is generally administered as an extended-release oral formulation for sustained therapeutic effect.
