Psyllium Husk: Bulk Supply and Private Label Fibre Supplements
Most of the world's psyllium is grown in India, but the brands that sell it are everywhere. We help buyers find a psyllium husk supplier for bulk orders, or a manufacturer that packs it as a finished fibre product under their own label.
Purity is measured in percent
Psyllium husk is the outer coat of the seed of Plantago ovata, a plant grown mainly in the Indian states of Gujarat and Rajasthan. The husk soaks up water and forms a gel, which is why it's sold as a fibre supplement, on its own or in flavoured drink mixes.
Husk is traded by purity grade, such as 85%, 95%, 98% or 99%: the share of clean husk, with the rest being seed, dust and other plant matter. Higher purity costs more and gives a cleaner product. Buyers also check swell volume (how much it swells in water), mesh size for powders, and microbiology.
How psyllium is regulated depends on how it's sold. Plain husk sold as a fibre supplement is usually a food. Psyllium sold to relieve constipation is a medicine in several markets, including the UK, where ispaghula husk laxatives are licensed medicines. In the US, over-the-counter psyllium laxatives must carry a choking warning and tell people to take them with enough water, and it makes sense to give the same advice on any dry fibre product.

What to check before you order
Purity grade
The grade you're paying for, confirmed on the Certificate of Analysis, with the seed and extraneous matter content.
Swell volume
How much the husk swells in water, in millilitres per gram. It tells you how it will behave in a drink or capsule.
Mesh size
Whole husk or fine powder. Powder mixes faster; whole husk has a more traditional texture.
Microbiology
Total plate count, yeast and mould, E. coli and Salmonella. It's a farm crop, so cleaning matters.
Contaminants
Heavy metals and pesticide residues, especially for organic products and the EU.
Your market
Food or medicine status, required warnings and fibre claims differ by country.
Formats we can arrange
| Format | Good for | Things to decide |
|---|---|---|
| Bulk husk or powder (25 kg bags) | Brands with their own packing, food makers | Purity grade, mesh, organic or conventional |
| Retail tubs and pouches | Pharmacy and online | Plain or flavoured, scoop size |
| Sachets and stick packs | Single servings, travel | Grams per sachet, sweetener |
| Capsules | Customers who don't like the texture | Capsules per serving (psyllium needs several) |
A useful serving of psyllium is several grams, so capsules mean several capsules at a time. Powders and drink mixes are the most common formats.
How it works with PharmaTradz
You send the product, format, strength per serving, market, pack and the quantity you have in mind.
Two or three GMP-certified plants that already make that format, with their licences, certifications and export history. Names under a confidential disclosure agreement once the requirement is firm.
We agree the grade, format and flavour, and you receive samples with their test results.
Your brand and artwork, checked against the rules of the market you sell in: label format, permitted ingredients and levels, and the claims you are allowed to make.
Batch made with a Certificate of Analysis, and third-party test reports where your market or your retailer asks for them.
Same plant, same formula and same specifications, scheduled to your sales.
Problems we see most often
Grade below what was agreed
A '99%' husk that tests at 95% is a common complaint. Ask for the results and keep a reference sample.
Lumps and poor mixing
Powder that clumps puts customers off. Agree the mesh size and test mixing with your own flavour.
Missing water advice
Dry fibre products should tell people to take them with plenty of water. Some markets require a warning.
