Ashwagandha: Private Label Capsules, Tablets and Gummies

Ashwagandha shows up in the top supplement searches of 52 countries, led by the US, India, Brazil, Germany, Spain and Mexico. India is where the plant is grown and processed, and we help brands get finished ashwagandha products made there.

Know your extract

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is an Ayurvedic herb. Supplements use either the plain root powder or an extract that is standardised to a stated level of withanolides, the plant's main active compounds. Extracts differ in the part of the plant used (root, or root and leaf), the solvent used to extract it and the withanolide level.

Those details belong in your specification, and the Certificate of Analysis should confirm the withanolide content and the test method. Herbal products also need testing for heavy metals, pesticides and microbiology, and identity testing to show the herb is really ashwagandha.

Rules on ashwagandha are tightening in some places. Denmark has banned it in food supplements and other European regulators are reviewing it, so check the market before you plan a launch in Europe.

How it works with PharmaTradz

1
Brief

You send the product, format, strength per serving, market, pack and the quantity you have in mind.

2
Shortlist

Two or three Indian plants that already make that format, with their licences, certifications and export history. Names under a confidential disclosure agreement once the requirement is firm.

3
Formula and samples

We agree the extract, strength and format, and you receive samples with their test results.

4
Label and compliance check

Your brand and artwork, checked against the rules of the market you sell in: label format, permitted ingredients and levels, and the claims you are allowed to make.

5
First production

Batch made with a Certificate of Analysis, and third-party test reports where your market or your retailer asks for them.

6
Repeat orders

Same plant, same formula and same specifications, scheduled to your sales.

Problems we see most often

Extract that does not match the label

Withanolide levels well below the label are a common complaint. Test every batch.

Leaf mixed with root

Some markets and customers want root-only extract. State it in the specification.

Launching where it is restricted

Check the rules in each European country before you plan a launch there.

Frequently Asked Questions

They are the main active compounds in ashwagandha. Extracts are usually standardised to a stated withanolide percentage, which should be confirmed on the Certificate of Analysis.

No. Denmark has banned it in food supplements and other European regulators are reviewing it. In many other markets it is sold freely, sometimes with warnings. Check your market first.

It depends on the format and pack. Powders and capsules usually allow smaller first orders than gummies or softgels, because gummy and softgel lines run in larger batches. Tell us your quantity and we will tell you which plants can do it.

Yes. That is what private label means: the ashwagandha is made by an Indian manufacturer and packed with your brand, label and barcode. You remain responsible for the product in your market, so check your local rules before you launch.

A Certificate of Analysis for every batch. On request, also third-party lab reports (for example heavy metals and microbiology), certificates such as halal, kosher or GMP, and the export documents your importer needs.
